    Integrate WeMo with IFTTT

Part II. In Part I we setup those little WeMo units you just got. Now, we’re gonna’  connect our WeMo devices to IFTTT. Short for If This Then That, IFTTT allows you to connect lots of different services to other services so that you can trigger events between services. For example, you can connect WeMo to Facebook so when you come home from work the motion sensor posts to Facebook. I don’t recommend that, but it’s an example. A better example is to trigger a change in the weather from your thermostat. Wait, I mean, change the thermostat based on the weather… Anyway, the more things you connect to IFTTT…

    Twitter Hacked (again)

Really? I guess to quote myself “it’s not hacking if you know the password.”  Although to qualify that I must say that is true but getting that password could be… So allow me to rephrase: Twitter got defaced due to a compromised account on their DynDNS service. Obviously I changed my own DynDNS password first thing this morning… PS – Resistance is futile, Microstan will come to be and all of this will be irrelevant anyway… PSS – The Zune is Portable Perfection. Resistance is again, futile.

    Social Networking

This is as much for me to have a one-stop shop to find this information as it is for my readers, but some social networks I can be found on: Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/krypted LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/charlesedge Twitter: http://twitter.com/cedge318 Ecademy: http://www.ecademy.com/account.php?id=167991 There are more and so I’ll update the list as I can think of them.

    Publish Screencasts to Twitter

You can publish screencasts directly to your Twitter feed using screenr, a nice little website that is compatible with both Mac and Windows clients. It’s quick, easy and while it doesn’t have some of the more advanced features that a Podcast Producer type of solution would have it’s a great quick and easy solution for those getting started with screencasting!

    Find Your Handle

Nothing kills me more than going to a new site and finding the username I like to use isn’t available any more. There are a number of sites out there that require you to create a username. Some day many may centralize around a unified approach such as OpenID, but until then how can you sear around all the various popular sites to find which ones still have the handle you like to use? Check out usernamecheck.com!

    Twit netiquette

For a little while now my site has been automatically updating other sites when new articles are published.  The update was pretty much just a generic URL.  Then someone asked me to put a little more “meat in my tweet.”  Great point.  It’s a bit rude to pollute the various social networks of the world with useless information.  Ergo, I’ve gone ahead and included the title of my posts in my actual feeds.  Additionally, I’ve thrown a nice new background on the site to make it a bit less stark.  Hope you enjoy. Oh, and just for the record, I love the term “meat in my tweet!”  I think it’s hilarious…  😉
