Hacking, phreaking, computing and gaming. There are a lot of movies that really hit on some of these topics. Everyone is going to have their favorites, but I wanted to share mine in case you had Presidents Day off and needed some nerdy fun to get you through the forced vacation! 1. Office Space is the story of Peter Gibbons, a computer programmer who spends all day doing mindless tasks. Thanks to a hypnotic suggestion, Peter decides not to go to work at the same time his company starts laying people off. When layoffs affect his two best friends, they conspire to plant a virus that will embezzle money from…

Link Baiting 101
I almost called this article “Aliens Can Listen To Calls on Your iPhone” or “How To Hack Into Every iPhone Ever (Even When They’re Powered Off)”. But then I thought that maybe it would be a bit too much. I’ve been a little melodramatic at times, but that’s when I was younger and needed the rupees. But TechTarget isn’t young (although I don’t know if they need the rupees). I’d like to point out two recent articles of theirs: Zaphod wrote this chapter just to mess with you: Apple iOS Security Attacks A Matter Of When, Not If, IT Pros Say The Salmon of Doubt would be a much better title…

Removing A Domain Name From A Google Search
When you are searching Google, you can restrict your search to a specific domain. For example, if you would like to find a page with the pattern “man touch” on https://krypted.com/ then you can constrain a Google search using the site: operator. The search dialog box would then read: "man touch" site:krypted.com But if you don’t find my posts helpful then you can remove the domain name from your Google searches, done by running the same, but with a “-” in front of the domain name, which given the above search inverted would be: "man touch" site:-krypted.com The resultant URL is then: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:-krypted.com. To take this a step further, you…

https://krypted.com/ Turns 7!
Today, https://krypted.com/ turns 7. 9 books and almost 2,000 posts later, I seem to have slowed down a bit if you look at the last couple of months of postings. But I’ve been busy, just trying to get a few other projects finished, so I can get back to my normal writing-too-much self. These projects I’ve been wrapping up include: Writing Using Mac OS X Lion Server for O’Reilly (the final artwork for this one was turned in today) Converting https://krypted.com/ into a publishing company and putting out Time Machine in Mac OS X Lion, which should also be on the iBookstore soon Speaking at 4 or 5 conferences (MacWorld is…

MacTech Black Friday: Get MacTech Magazine For Free
There aren’t a lot of magazines that I read. There are fewer I actually pay for. But MacTech is one of those. I know I have mentioned MacTech before, but I never actually bothered to get any deals for my readers. Well, how about a free subscription? Actually, MacTech is also running the offer on their main site, so it’s not like I’m special – but I do have my own link and it is a separate run of the same special pricing – so there! Want a free subscription to MacTech Magazine? If you aren’t yet a subscriber of MacTech Magazine, then you should take a look at the “Ultimate…

10 Tips for Writing Gaming Bots
Apparently it’s out. I’ve been botting games for years. Botting is my way of coping with an addiction to games. I simply cannot help myself. I start playing a game and I just cannot stop. And that’s where bots come in. Over the years I’ve found a number of ways to write bots. It started with easy little web scripts and has now morphed into a full blown SWT library framework that spans multiple games, multiple platforms and runs around 20 instances from my home network at all times. But when you start writing bots, you enter into a new kind of game that is a game in and of…

https://krypted.com/ Turns 7
Today marks the 7th year of Krypted.com. I owned the site for a number of years prior, but it was more of the geocities-type of site than what it is now (at one point I believe that I even had flashing text at one point). In those 7 years, I have posted 1,800 articles, rebuilt the site time and time again and to date, I have written every single word (other than those quoted) on the site. But times change. Over the course of the next year I will be allowing others to publish to the site as well. My posts will always say Charles and their posts will say,…

New https://krypted.com/
I just can’t help myself. Every now and then I get a bug up my butt to go messing around with Krypted.com. In this case, I was tired of looking at some broken elements from the page and the front end of the site in general (just felt like something I might have built in college). I also needed to upgrade the site to the latest and greatest WordPress and some of the plug-ins that I was using were broken in 3. And thus, the lightest version of the site that I think has ever gone up. The posts are all still there, so no change to the content, but…

No More Mingling
I’m just not that social. Therefore, I have removed Mingle, the social networking aspect of Krypted.com. I may reintroduce something like this in the future, but for now it seems that it’s just a source of frustration… Get MacTech
