    10 Billion Songs

When the iTunes Store came out if you had told me that they would end up selling 10 billion songs you might have come across like a bit of an Austin Powers skit. But Apple has crossed 10 billion now in “staggering” fashion: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/02/25itunes.html

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants

I write a lot. There are the meanderings that appear on this site, the writing on the 318 TechJournal, more structured prose that goes into books (sometimes regrettably only slightly more structured), writing for clients, freelance writing, writing for other websites and even a bit of ghost writing here and there. Sometimes the writing is short, sometimes long, but there is a pretty consistent amount of it. The reason is because I enjoy it. Most of my writing is technical in nature. And like many who maybe learn a thing or two on my site I end up sharing tips or tricks from places that I no longer remember where…

    Interactive Marketing for Charity

Pete Carroll will be sorely missed by USC fans. I have now gained a little more respect for him. Love that Pete Carroll is using a little of his recent press to contribute some to his charity. Pete Carroll’s Trip to Seattle Delayed from Rob Riggle

    RFC2324

I discuss a lot of RFCs on this site and I at times will reference having a solution so tricked out that it makes you coffee. My good friend Ehren therefore sent me a link to an RFC to have a web browser manage the coffee pot. I am wholly behind this effort and think that with descriptions like this of method definitions, how could you possibly go wrong: Coffee pots heat water using electronic mechanisms, so there is no fire. Thus, no firewalls are necessary, and firewall control policy is irrelevant. However, POST may be a trademark for coffee, and so the BREW method has been added. The BREW…

    Missin' AM Radio?

Holiday gift idea inspired (for me at least) by Everclear’s AM Radio: The VCR and the DVD There wasn’t none of that crap back in 1970 We didn’t know about a World Wide Web It was a whole different game being played back when I was a kid Wanna get down in a cool way Picture yourself on a beautiful day Big bell bottoms and groovy long hair Just walkin’ in style with a portable CD player No, you would listen to the music on the AM radio AM radio Yeah, you could hear the music on a AM radio AM radio If you’re missing the AM radio (or FM…

Thanks for the Free Stuff Apple

iTunes is doing a special on 20 free songs for the holidays meaning that you can score 20 free songs on free music Tuesday this week! And in addition to that you can get another free Bob Dylan song (how cool is that) and a free music video from Beck and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Oh, and another free song from the 88. Then, by becoming a fan of iTunes on Facebook you get 20 more songs! Seems like someone is trying to kickstart the iTunes gift giving spree with a little free Christmas music. All that free stuff should leave plenty of money for buyin’ the new Jimmy Buffett though!

    Mowin' the Lawn

It’s not that I mind mowing the lawn. In fact, ever since hearing my wife sing “moppin’ the floor, moppin’ the floor” to the tune of “Breakin’ the Law” I actually enjoy it. But, if you can buy a robot to do the job for you then why not! The Friendly Robotics RoboMower is such a mower. I’ve talked about home robotics in the past and I’ve talked about home automation as well, so it should be of no surprise to see this post. If you’re just getting started with robotics and want to try out something silly then you can check out the Tin Can Robot or for something a…
