    Bypassing the iPhone Passcode

Cellebrite has a solution that can unlock the passcode on an iPhone or iPod if you have a computer that has synchronized with it. iTunes generates a Security ID for each iPhone or iPod that is synchronized with it. This ID is used to synchronize just in case you loose or forget the passcode. Cellebrite can use the Security ID file from iTunes as well. Cellebrite isn’t the only tool, there are others as well, many of which will allow you to mount the device with or without actually writing data to it. But what if you don’t have the passcode or a machine that the handheld has been synchronized…

    iPhone Skin

A few months ago I noticed that a pretty hefty percentage of my visitors came from an iPhone. Looking at the site from an iPhone was pretty darn painful, so I added a skin (Plugin) to the site that is specific to users of mobile devices.  While I have slightly modified it for my own purposes (testing in the Simulator every step of the way), I must admit that I didn’t write it.  I’ve received a few comments about it so to give credit where it’s due, it’s the WPTouch Plugin from Brave New Code. It’s a really small Plugin, easy to install (drop into your plugins directory and then…

iPhone: Restoring Lost Applications and Their Data

I just can’t help myself. The first thing I do with a new toy is brick the darn thing. I have to unlock it, I have to remove certain sandbox restrictions, I have to basically break it. Why can’t I leave it alone? Because I’m just plain stupid. That being said, I like to think that no matter how deep a hole I dig myself into, I can pull myself out. So when I brick the phone of course I jump into issues and the next thing I know, I’ve got an empty iTunes library and a freshly reimaged phone sitting in front of me, completely empty. Regrettably an empty…

iPhone Apps for OS X Server Admins

There is a really nice app for Mac OS X Server admins from Harlekins called Server Admin Remote.  You can see more information about it at the Server Admin Remote website, here. Basically, Server Admin Remote is a nice front end for a few serveradmin commands, showing which services are installed and the status of services.  It also looks at server host names, CPU, network loads, service logs and some of the more important stats per service (ie – concurrent connections for AFP.  Overall it’s a great little app for the Server Admin to quickly be able to restart a service or just look at statuses of services.  It runs over…

    Using JavaScript in iPhone Applications

I’ve been tinkering with using JavaScript (.js) in iPhone applications.  Using the libraries posted here http://ejohn.org/blog/iphone-javascript-apps I was able to get the following script, which runs on my local webserver in OS X ported from Java to Xcode for iPhone: The script runs online or offline since the .js files actually live within the Xcode project.  This is only a library for a much larger network utility application I’ve been considering.  There are also JavaScript libraries out there for ping and nslookup, although they haven’t proven to port.  Also, Dashcode projects typically won’t port so seamlessly…

    10 Million iPhone Users

The economy seems to continue to get less and less optimistic.  Meanwhile, 10 Million iPhone Users have now been sold.  This means that there is an entire economic model behind iPhone application development.  There’s also a huge market in creating mobile skins for otherwise non-mobile-friendly websites and building out iPhone applications for companies to use internally.  In the midst of all of this I keep trying to decide, do I just GPL my apps or do I go ahead and try to monetize them.  I finally got my application approved, so the apps will likely be up within the next few days whatever I choose to do with them.

    UGA Football Schedule

iPhone applications and vacation.  Funny how they can end up coming together.  Another app I’ve been working on is a little football schedule for the UGA Bulldogs, which if you’ve been reading this site for awhile you’ll know is my team of choice.  So here are some screenshots for the app, which should be up on the App Store once I get all the details worked out.

    Kace and Mac OS X

KBOX supports package distribution and inventory management for Mac OS X.  KBOX is more commonly known though, for providing imaging, software distribution and inventory management for Windows environments.  But the imaging is what’s missing in the offering for Mac OS X.  So if you’re planning a KBOX deployment then consider going ahead and also planning a NetInstall, NetRestore or InstaDMG deployment to go right along with it for your Mac environment.
