Remove Apps From A 4th Generation Apple TV

The 4th Generation of the Apple TV supports installing apps. And part of playing around with new apps is sometimes you’re not going to want them on your TV any more. To remove apps, the process is similar to that of an iPad. Highlight an app that you’d like to remove and then hold down the clicker on the app. The app will go a little larger. Click on it again and you’ll get the option to Delete the app. Click Delete and the app disappears. That’s it. The app, and any storage that is being consumed by the app, is then freed up.

Copy Big Update Files Between Apple Configurator 2 Machines

One of the things that is awesome and sometimes frustrating about Apple Configurator is that when you do certain tasks, you end up updating the OS on devices. The reason this is awesome is that it allows you to centralize operations. The reason this can be frustrating is that if you’re on a limited bandwidth connection, you may find that you can’t do very basic tasks before downloading a large OS update. And if you’ve got a bunch of Apple Configurator workstations, and you are running a training session, this can get infinitely more annoying. In these types of lab environments, you’re in luck. If you have an ipsw (the iOS…

Automate MDM Enrollment Using Apple Configurator 2

I’ve written a number of articles on automating MDM enrollments using Apple Configurator in the past. In Apple Configurator 2, there are some new options that make the process much easier than it’s ever been in the past. To get started, let’s open Apple Configurator 2 and click on a Blueprint we’d like to apply to devices being prepared during a mass iPad or iPhone enrollment through Apple Configurator. Control-click on the Blueprint to set up for automated enrollment and click on the Prepare button. At the Organization screen, select the organization you’d like to enroll your device in and click on the Next button. At the Server screen, select…

Take Screenshots On The 4th Generation Apple TV

The new Apple TV has a USB-C port. It’s got some great uses. One of which is that you can use it to take screenshots through Xcode. To do so, you’ll either need a USB-C MacBook or a USB-C to USB adapter. Once you’ve plugged your computer into the back of the Apple TV, open Xcode and choose Devices from the Window menu at the top of the screen. From Devices, click on your new 4th Generation Apple TV. You’ll then be greeted by a Take Screenshot button. Click on it. You should then see the screen from your Apple TV. Now, good luck with that pose… Now that I…

Xcode Server On OS X Server 5

OS X and iOS developers need a continuous integration system. This automates the build, analysis, and testing solution for software development using Xcode. OS X Server has an Xcode service, capable of integrating your developer account with git, providing many of the options required to build a continuous integration system. Before you configure the Xcode service that can take committed code and then test and build your software, you’ll need an Apple developer account. The Xcode service then links git to a developer account and runs automations, referred to as bots, in Xcode. Therefore, you’ll also need to have Xcode installed on the computer running the Xcode service. Bots are then managed and reported on using a…

    Apple Configurator 2

Apple Configurator 2 is now out and there are some really cool new features available to people deploying Apple Configurator. Apple Configurator 2 now supports feature called Blueprints. A Blueprint is a set of configuration options (such as profiles, apps, etc) that are easily applied to devices by applying a given Blueprint. So basically a canned set of options that can be configured on a device.
