Many of us now use our phone to check our email more often than we use our computer. Our phones go everywhere with us (although please hang up when you’re in the can as few things are more disgusting than listening to someone talk to their mom when they’re droppin’ the kids off at the pool in the stall next to you or hearing someone you’re talking to dropping’ a deuce in the pooper on the other end of the line). Many no longer have land lines and some have even dumped desktop and laptop computers in favor of smart-phone or tablet based digital lives. Few skipped the computer altogether…

<rant> According to Mayan tradition if you jump into one of the cenotes by the Mayan pyramids you can make predictions as to the future. Apparently, one person predicted he would be a ruler and was thus anointed such. Funny how that works. The Economy and IT
Companies simply cannot live without IT. If a company is going to cut existing staff then they aren’t going to cut the staff that’s actually keeping their systems up and running, nor are they going to cut employees that are creating value. But if these be uncertain times then consider beefing up your skills and certifications in a manner that aligns with your job (or a job you want if you’re not happy where you are).
