My New Book on Time Machine Now Available
I have published a new book on Time Machine (Time Capsule, deployment/Managed Prefs and Time Machine Server as well). I wrote it months and months ago and it finally ended up getting posted (publishing is a weird world like that sometimes). It is available for Kindle (Amazon) for now and should be up on the iBooks store as soon as the good people from iTunes Connect get back from their holiday break. To quote the Amazon excerpt: Time Machine is Apple’s built-in backup solution that comes bundled with Mac OS X. In this book, we will explore Time Machine, looking at how to enable Time Machine, configure what to back…

MacTech Black Friday: Get MacTech Magazine For Free
There aren’t a lot of magazines that I read. There are fewer I actually pay for. But MacTech is one of those. I know I have mentioned MacTech before, but I never actually bothered to get any deals for my readers. Well, how about a free subscription? Actually, MacTech is also running the offer on their main site, so it’s not like I’m special – but I do have my own link and it is a separate run of the same special pricing – so there! Want a free subscription to MacTech Magazine? If you aren’t yet a subscriber of MacTech Magazine, then you should take a look at the “Ultimate…

MacTech, Slides and Conference Goodness
MacTech Day 1 My MacTech experience started last night. I flew into Los Angeles and was picked up at the airport by my coworker, Zack Smith. Given that I lived in Santa Monica for over a decade, I drove the Mini Cooper that 318 bought recently from LAX to Studio City. On the way, I got to get caught up with Zack’s stories from a month of vacation (living vicariously through others definitely has its moments). We got to the Universal City Sheraton in less than an hour during rush hour. Given the 405 being all messed up, we dodged a few bullets and cut through South Central Los Angeles…

MacSysAdmin Videos Available
I really had a great time at MacSysAdmin 2011 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The videos of the sessions are now available at http://documentation.macsysadmin.se. The Swedes, Danes, Norwegians and even the Finns are great hosts. And getting to meet people from so many countries in one spot is always fun. Tycho and his cohorts at Apoio just do such a great job planning and thinking every detail through. Since my demos were a fail (note: you need Internet access to restore iOS devices), I’ll be publishing an article that outlines each of my demos that weren’t able to be delivered at some point in the near future. Also, congrats to all the…

MacSysAdmin 2011
For those of you who need to get out and do something interesting this upcoming October, check out the European Macintosh System Administrators Meeting 2011 (aka MacSysAdmin 2011). It will be October 5-7th and it’s sure to be a blast as in years past. This year, myself and Zack Smith from 318 will both be speaking, as well as Arek Dreyer, Ed Marczak, Nigel Kersten, Duncan McCracken, Greg Neagle, Rick Wylie, Andrina Kelly, Alan Gordon and most notably, Andy Ihnatko! It’s a pretty awesome lineup and my favorite part about MacSysAdmin is always the fact that the attendees are amongst the highest caliber of system admins I have the chance…
