'Using Mac OS X Lion Server' Now Finished

My next book, Using Mac OS X Lion Server, from O’Reilly is all done. I accepted the final changes last week and it was sent to the printer on Wednesday. The digital copies should be shipping shortly and the print copies should be shipping in about one to two weeks. If you haven’t yet ordered it, you can pick it up on Amazon, here, or directly from O’Reilly, here. Hope you enjoy! Also, for those interested, we’ve already begun updating the book for all the new features in Mountain Lion Server. Now that I’m pretty in tune with publishing through O’Reilly and the various technical aspects of doing so, I…

    The Elements of Style

Strunk & White’s Elements of Style is one of the best works explaining the rules of writing in the English language that has ever existed (and I’m pretty sure that sentence broke at least five of those rules). I’ve given this book to many a budding writer over the years. I’ve also recently noticed that it’s now all over the Internet, for free. For example, Bartleby has posted the 1918 edition of Elements of Style here. If you haven’t read Elements of Style then I strongly recommend it. It’s short, concise and explains why that apostrophe goes in that one spot as opposed to the other. If you want to…

    https://krypted.com/ Turns 7!

Today, https://krypted.com/ turns 7. 9 books and almost 2,000 posts later, I seem to have slowed down a bit if you look at the last couple of months of postings. But I’ve been busy, just trying to get a few other projects finished, so I can get back to my normal writing-too-much self. These projects I’ve been wrapping up include: Writing Using Mac OS X Lion Server for O’Reilly (the final artwork for this one was turned in today) Converting https://krypted.com/ into a publishing company and putting out Time Machine in Mac OS X Lion, which should also be on the iBookstore soon Speaking at 4 or 5 conferences (MacWorld is…

MacTech Black Friday: Get MacTech Magazine For Free

There aren’t a lot of magazines that I read. There are fewer I actually pay for. But MacTech is one of those. I know I have mentioned MacTech before, but I never actually bothered to get any deals for my readers. Well, how about a free subscription? Actually, MacTech is also running the offer on their main site, so it’s not like I’m special – but I do have my own link and it is a separate run of the same special pricing – so there! Want a free subscription to MacTech Magazine? If you aren’t yet a subscriber of MacTech Magazine, then you should take a look at the “Ultimate…

My OS X Server Book From O'Reilly On Amazon!

I usually don’t like to discuss books (except in person with friends/colleagues) very much until I have an ISBN number. Well, here it is! My next book is going to address what I consider the most important challenge to Apple Server nerds like myself: can a server really be installed off the app store with no technical skills? I also tackle the meaning of life (somewhere on page 42) in this book, but that’s not nearly as interesting a topic… I am about 80 percent done with it and it should be out within the next 5 to 6 weeks. One of the things that really impresses me about O’Reilly…

Review of My iOS in the Enterprise Book

There is a nice review of my iOS in the Enterprise book up on MacDirectory. It is available at: http://www.macdirectory.com/component/option,com_reviews/task,viewDetail/review_id,504 Overall the review was good. I understand not liking the font choice for the book. Luckily this type of thing isn’t something we authors have a choice about, so I take it as an overall good review!

MacTech Bootcamps Coming To A City Near You!

I’ve been watching the MacTech Conference and then Boot Camps for some time. After hearing of the resounding success of the Conference last summer I was then stoked to hear that the January Boot Camp went extremely well. A MacTech Boot Camp is a regional, single-track seminar designed specifically for consultants and techs. MacTech Conference is a multi-day conference for IT professionals with a focus on enterprise and development whereas the Boot Camps are for consultants and techs focused on home users and small to medium sized businesses. Both are going really well. https://krypted.com/ is now a media sponsor of MacTech Boot Camps! This means I get discounts to offer my…

    MacSysAdmin 2011

For those of you who need to get out and do something interesting this upcoming October, check out the European Macintosh System Administrators Meeting 2011 (aka MacSysAdmin 2011). It will be October 5-7th and it’s sure to be a blast as in years past. This year, myself and Zack Smith from 318 will both be speaking, as well as Arek Dreyer, Ed Marczak, Nigel Kersten, Duncan McCracken, Greg Neagle, Rick Wylie, Andrina Kelly, Alan Gordon and most notably, Andy Ihnatko! It’s a pretty awesome lineup and my favorite part about MacSysAdmin is always the fact that the attendees are amongst the highest caliber of system admins I have the chance…

    Law Firms and iPads

Josh Barrett, of tabletlegal.com posted a mini-review of my latest book, the Enterprise iPhone and iPad Administrator’s Guide. It’s an interesting look at iPads making their way into law firms despite the often reluctant IT admins who have to support them. Big thanks to Josh for a favorable review!
