    Use serverinfo in macOS Server 5.2 for Sierra

    macOS Server 5.2 (for Sierra)  comes with the /usr/sbin/serverinfo command (introduced in Mountain Lion Server). The serverinfo command is useful when programmatically obtaining information about the very basic state of an Apple Server. The first option indicates whether the Server app has been downloaded from the app store, which is the –software option: serverinfo --software When used, this option reports the following if the Server.app can be found: This system has server software installed.     Vulnerability Scanning Web Servers Using Nikto On OS X

    I’ve had a pretty easy time using Nikto over the years. Nikto is a security scanner specific to web servers. I did a post on Nessus recently, but Nessus is a tool for looking at any service running on a system and trying to find available vulnerabilities. Nikto is can do many of the same things, but is specific and therefore more in depth for web servers. This involves looking at things like CGI directories and robots.txt files as well.     Using Payload Variables in Profile Manager

    Profile Manager allows you to leave certain fields that are user-centric blank and it will prompt at the time that the profile is installed for the blank information. These are usually user-centric fields, such as short name and password. You can also create a profile in Profile Manager for each user you want to setup mail, Exchange, iCal, Address Book and other services that are tied to a specific user.
