Voice Commands on the iPhone

In case you hadn’t heard, it’s been cold in Minneapolis the last week or so. As such I have found myself wearing gloves when I go outside. And when you are wearing gloves, sometimes you do things you maybe didn’t mean to do. I had a moment like that with my iPhone this morning. While holding the phone I was pressing down the home button (the button on the front of the device). After a time I heard a tone. That tone meant that I had opened Voice Control.

It doesn’t stay open long, so first I had to figure out what I did to get it back. Once I got it back I simply read the words on the screen into it and it performed the actions I asked of it. “Dial Lisa” and it called my wife. Wow. “Make it warm” didn’t produce quite the results I was looking for. Simply telling it to play music by this band or that band produced inadequate results until I read on the screen that I could tell it to “play artist” followed by the name of the artist; that resulted in great results.

“Previous track”, “next track”, “play”, “pause music”, “genius”, “play album” (followed by the album) and a few others worked pretty well overall. So overall, if I was leaning towards becoming an iPhone fan boy before, I think I’m about over that ledge based on a complete accident. Well, the Good Enterprise stuff for the iPhone helps as well, but I’ll be talking about that in another post soon enough…
